Labour’s getting the Abbott habit
Thursday, June 10th, 2010
Diane Abbot has made the cut in the race for the Labour Party leadership after David Milliband donated some of his support to make sure she reached the necessary 33 nominations from MPs.
The move has triggered a number of different reactions. One senior Labour insider said, “Diane’s from an ethnic minority, she’s a woman and she’s from the left. She’s exactly what the Labour Party needs … as long as she doesn’t win”.
Eric Pickles added his support for Ms. Abbott by suggesting “she could well be the Labour Party’s Margaret Thatcher“.
